A ground survey by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) shows that kharif groundnut production in Gujarat is likely to fall by 20.5 per cent.

After three days of extensive field visits across major groundnut-producing districts in Gujarat, the SEA completed its ‘Kharif Groundnut Crop Survey 2026-27’ on Sunday. The survey provides important insights into Gujarat’s groundnut production outlook.

According to the SEA survey, Gujarat’s groundnut crop is estimated at 33.30 lakh tonnes (lt) from an area of around 20.71 lakh hectares with an estimated yield of 1608 kg per hectare during the 2026-27 kharif season.

Deficit rain impact

Gujarat had produced 41.88 lt of groundnut from 22.02 lakh hectares with a yield of 1,902 kg per hectare in 2025-26.

SEA said this year’s survey assumes greater significance in view of the deficient rainfall reported in certain districts of Saurashtra, which has adversely affected the groundnut crop in some areas. The extensive on-ground assessment provides valuable insights into the impact of these conditions and helps establish a clearer picture of Gujarat’s groundnut production for the 2026-27 kharif season.

20% drop Saurashtra

The survey estimated the groundnut production in Saurashtra region to decline by 19.8 per cent during the 2026-27 kharif season.

Saurashtra region is estimated to produce 25.53 lt of groundnut from an area of 15.78 lakh hectares with an estimated yield of 1618 kg per hectare during the 2026-27 kharif season. However, this region had produced 31.82 lt from an area of 16.53 lakh hectares with a yield of 1925 kg per hectare in 2025-26.

Rajkot and Jamnagar districts in Saurashtra region, which were the major groundnut producers in 2025-26, are expected to see a significant decline in crop production in 2026-27. The survey for the 2026-27 kharif season estimated groundnut crop production at 5.90 lt (6.60 lt in 2025-26) in Rajkot, and at 3.26 lt (5.63 lt) in Jamnagar district.

The production is estimated to increase to 5.32 lt (4.44 lt) in Junagadh, and to 3.38 lt (2.81 lt) in Amreli district.

The findings will be valuable to farmers, processors, millers, traders and other stakeholders in understanding the ground reality of Gujarat’s groundnut crop and its implications for the wider edible oil sector.

The survey team of over 20 members assessed crop size, quality, seed varieties and other key parameters through field visits and interactions with farmers, millers, traders and brokers from October 23 to 25. Vinod Patel of SK Industry, Rajesh Patel of GGN Research, and BV Mehta, Executive Director of SEA, were part of the team.
