Special Report: Javelin Minerals has completed a deep diamond hole testing the second of two modelled magnetic intrusive targets at its Coogee gold-copper project in WA’s Eastern Goldfields.

The latest hole at Coogee West was drilled to a total depth of 1000m and intersected a sequence of felsic and intermediate volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks that are variously intruded by intermediate diorite dykes which are seen elsewhere in the project.

It also intersected thick dolerite units that may explain the target’s magnetic signature.

Javelin Minerals (ASX:JAV) says the program has now tested both Coogee North and Coogee West, two large modelled magnetic anomalies spatially associated with gold-copper mineralisation identified in historical shallow drilling.

Downhole magnetic susceptibility readings collected during drilling will now be incorporated into the existing inversion model to check whether the mafic units correspond to the modelled anomaly.

Two deep targets now tested

The first hole, at Coogee North, finished at 819.8m.

Assays from the two-hole program are pending, with core mark-up, cutting and sampling due to start shortly alongside selected petrographic analysis.

Historical shallow aircore drilling at Coogee West outlined a broad bedrock gold anomaly extending about 900m by 500m, with bottom-of-hole sampling returning up to 1.38g/t gold.

Transported sediments around Lake Lefroy limit the usefulness of surface geochemical sampling, and the magnetic feature had not previously been tested by deep drilling.

Combined, the holes are the first deep tests of the modelled anomalies, adding geological information to help refine the intrusive-target interpretation.

Coogee already hosts a resource of about 3.6Mt at 1.08g/t gold for 127,000oz, plus 1.0Mt at 0.41% copper for 4,122t of contained copper.

The project was mined by Ramelius Resources in 2013-14, producing 20,400oz of gold from 147,400t at 4.77g/t.

Gold-copper mineralisation has been identified through shallow drilling, while the deeper magnetic targets had remained untested until the current campaign.

JAV says it will compile geological, assay and geophysical data and revise its interpretation of the targets before deciding on further exploration.
